Three tips to better your social media strategy

Three tips to better your social media strategy

Social Media Strategy

I know what you are thinking…  Why are there only three tips?  A simple Google search reveals a million result for a better social media strategy.  We like to keep it simple.  We use social media daily on a personal level.  We post pictures of our family, food, check-in at fantastic restaurants, and catch up on the latest family drama (we know it happens). We created our tips for a better social media strategy based on our habits and things we enjoy on social media.

Tips for a Better Social Media Strategy;

  1. ENGAGE. As customers as well as a marketing company, we know what sort of posts we enjoy and which we tend to skip over. We LOVE engaging posts that are informative.  If we finish reading an article or quick blog post and say “Wow, I didn’t know that,” then we chuck that in the +1 list.  On the other hand, if we read a clear commercial that is only pushing us to a particular call-to-action as the only solution with no information, you guessed it, it goes in the -1 pile.  Keep it interesting without the sales pitch (well, too much of one).
  2. EDUCATE. Customers become customers when they trust you, or your solution is best for their particular problem.  Hands down, the best way to get them to this point is education.  I have seen many blogs and many videos that are just commercials for social media.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be sold to (my wife and I purposely go into ninja mode at the car lot). Create short educational pieces.  If you are a photographer, tell them how to take the best picture with their smartphone.  A baker should show how to make a great tasting cupcake.  If you are selling fishing equipment, show your customers how to use it, and it will catch the “big one”.
  3. ENTERTAIN. I don’t mean dance or sing (unless you can).  What I mean here is be yourself, tell a joke, show you are human and connect with your audience.  We like to be entertained by “real” people.  Don’t be something you are not.  If you play guitar, find a way to bring it into your video’s.  Sing to a product, create a quick tune for people to remember you or your very own jingle.  Whatever you do, do it in your posts.

It’s really not that difficult when we shorten it to three simple tips.  If you follow this simple advice, you will be well on the way to having a better social media strategy.

As a bonus, we created an infographic to help remind you of these tips.  Just click the social media strategy infographic to download it.

Digital Forensic Questions from a Student — ANSWERED !

Digital Forensic Questions from a Student — ANSWERED !

In this cast, I took questions via Skype from Kiley Wright. She is a digital forensics student at Southern New Hampshire University. Unfortunately her audio and video didn’t turn out 🙁 So, I posted her questions in graphics and answered them with my Skype feed (not great either). Thanks so much Kiley for allowing me to record our session.

Are Retailers Killing the Holidays and Family Values?

Are Retailers Killing the Holidays and Family Values?

I know… The title right?  Kevin is just being dramatic… Or is he?

I am sitting in a hotel in Lima, Ohio on Thanksgiving.  I drove my family down to visit family and do the annual over eating with my wife’s grandparents and another one on Saturday with my family… yum.  Such a great meal and I ate myself miserable.

I noticed something this year that I have not seen in the past.  People lining up outside of retail stores right after noon as I drove from visiting family to the meal…  People do know it’s Thanksgiving here in the US right?  I remember making this drive many times and passing many empty parking lots.  My thoughts were people were enjoying a day of reflection and gratitude with their families… oh ya…. and food.

I was disappointed to see these lines at noon.  The traffic was insane and the mall parking lot, full out to the street.  Every year retail stores struggle to compete.  I get it, but at what sacrifice?  Do we really let the temptation of a great “deal” take us from one of the few days we spend with family?  I believe the breakdown of the family unit to be the slow decay of the planet and all the values that I hold dear.  I will not raise my children accepting that Thanksgiving is another retail holiday and Christmas has become.

The retailers are damaging the values of family in two ways.  The first is requiring their employees to leave their dinners of fried turkey and pumpkin pies with loved ones to enact their plan of value destruction in the name revenue.  Second is running the ads that actually convince people this is a good idea and making them feel that it is ok because I saved ‘X’ amount of money.

I know of a lot of you reading this are thinking… what the hell does this have to do with DFIR?  lol  nothing ! It has everything to do with people and the value we have placed on our families.

This season, value what is important to you.  If the “great deal” means that much to you, by all means pursue it.  If you believe as I do, stand up for your values.  As a business owner myself, I choose families first.  I hope you do too.

Have a great holiday season.

Get Information from a locked iOS 11 Device

Get Information from a locked iOS 11 Device

Be sure to LIKE or Subscribe to this video. This helps me determine the types of videos to create in the future. Thanks so much for watching. I appreciate it!

In this video, Kevin DeLong shows you how to get information from a locked iPhone running iOS 11. When your forensic tools are unable to get access, revert to your investigator skills and use Notification center, widgets and Siri to gain information.  Digital Forensics is a tricky beast and you have to think outside of the box a lot of the time and rely on ideas from others.

Apple is always changing iOS to be more secure, so these tricks are in constant flux.  Getting your hands on an iOS backup file is one of the best ways to get the data, but then you could be dealing with encrypted backups or other issues.
